A few weeks ago, our team traded their calculators for cutting boards at FareShare!
During their shift, our team played a crucial role in preparing hundreds of meals for those in need. Here’s a snapshot of what they accomplished:
Meal Preparation: They assembled and packed 780 x 400g single-serve tray meals of beef and mushroom stew with rice.
Vegetable Chopping: They chopped an impressive amount of vegetables, including:
- 90 kg of broccoli
- 40 kg of capsicum
- 40 kg of silverbeet
Rice Preparation: They trayed up 100 kg of rice to be steamed, providing a delicious accompaniment for even more meals.
Kitchen Clean-Up: Help with the all-important clean and reset of the kitchens at the end of the shift.
Chef Cody truly appreciated their enthusiasm, energy, and support.
Together, we’re working to meet the increasing demand for FareShare meals, especially in light of rising living costs and the ongoing impact of natural disasters.
If you are in the position to support FareShare, here are some simple yet impactful ways to help make a real difference:
- Share with your colleagues: Let your friends and colleagues know about our corporate volunteering program and encourage them to register their interest to volunteer in our Melbourne and Brisbane kitchens.
- Help to sustain our work with your financial support: You can make a one-off donation or a regular payroll deduction through workplace giving.
- Connect with us on social media: Share your experience (including photo’s that were taken) in the kitchen and don’t forget to tag us. Follow our journey and our news on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn.
- Corporate giving program: Does your company have a Foundation or a corporate giving program? If so, please contact me or our Corporate Partnerships Manager, Jackie Maxwell jackie.maxwell@secondbite.org to discuss your ideas.
- Fundraise: who doesn’t love a bake sale? Or is running a marathon more your thing? Start a fundraiser here. Our fundraising team is here to help!
- Host a food drive: Help us source priority ingredients for our kitchen. Check out our food drive page for currently in-demand items.
- Become a regular volunteer: Many of our regular volunteers were introduced to FareShare via a corporate shift. We have shifts to suit any timetable and lifestyle – mornings, afternoons, evenings, Saturday mornings and afternoons – and volunteers can commit weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Register online by at this link. We are currently onboarding lots of new volunteers as we ramp up meal production in our expanded kitchen.
