Our Client Conversation offers an opportunity for us to present our clients to our readership in a way that shares their passion for what they do.

This month we introduce you to South Rock Advisory.


Phil, thank you so much for taking time to catch up with me today. As your business advisors and friend, we know all about you and your numbers, but for everyone else out there can you tell us a little about you and how you came about starting your business.

I started out in public practice, actually at the same accountancy firm with Troy & Tim where i gained experience as a finance and accounting professional. After 9 years I left to broaden my knowledge and experience within large corporations and have recently started South Rock Advisory where I am excited to be back working with SME businesses.

So what can people expect when working with you?

South Rock Advisory provides support to business owners with a particular focus on Virtual CFO services and creating vital links between business operations and financial performance to assist in generating growth or implementing business change.  Ensuring high transparency and that commercial rigour is applied to decision making is the foundation of our approach.

With the business in its early stages, what challeges are you preparing for?

The challenge ahead is to connect with business owners who have needs in areas of their business where South Rock Advisory can provide quality support and drive on outcomes required.

To ensure you remain sustainable while growing your business, what are some tools or strategies you’ve implemented?

For me personally it was very important to understand the investment required to allow me to start the business from scratch, so quality 5 year projections were of critical importance for me.

Why would a business choose to work with South Rock Advisory over one of your competitors?

I think the commercial & business improvement experience gained within large corporate businesses, when coupled with the deep understanding of financial matters I gained mostly whilst in public practice, has given me a different perspective and a set of skills which lend themselves well to SME’s business owners looking to take the next step.

How has the team at HTA supported you with starting your new business?

Apart from ongoing compliance services associated with my entities, HTA has provided me terrific support throughout the business setup process. Support such as advice on planning matters and how to keep the business systems lean and efficient, access to professional networks and getting the entity / structure right. Knowing that I have like-minded advisors on tap is very reassuring.
